Alejandro Bettoni T.
Alejandro Bettoni provides legal assistance in a broad range of business matters, including commercial law, corporate law, regulatory law, energy law, e-commerce law, bids and government contracts, civil and commercial litigation, antitrust law and unfair competition law. He is also a certified notary public. He is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
He acts as outside counsel for many domestic and foreign businesses of all sizes. He advises and represents many industries on matters related to business planning, negotiation and drafting of contracts, storage processing, local distribution, franchise applications, customer and competitors’ complaints, administrative proceedings, utility and regulatory hearings, law reform and litigation.
Mr. Bettoni is Chairman of the National Chamber of Gas Distributors of Costa Rica. He is also an active member of International Law Firms (ILF), a worldwide organization of independent law firms; of the International Bar Association (IBA), the Arbitration and Competition Law committees of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC, Costa Rican Chapter), and the Commission on Commercial Uniform Law of the Costa Rican Bar Association.
He has given several lectures and presentations in Costa Rica and abroad on commercial law and has published several papers in Costa Rican law reviews on those issues. He taught Commercial Law at the ULACIT University’s LLM program (2011-2013) and also collaborated for many years with the World Bank ‘Doing Business’ projects on insolvency and creditors rights.
Mr. Bettoni received his LLM and Ph.D. degrees on Commercial Law from the Carlos III University of Madrid (Spain), where he graduated with honors. Prior to that, he received his law degree from the University of Costa Rica, where he also was granted a Summa Cum Laude degree designation.
